No Extension Talks Between Red Sox, Eduardo Rodriguez

Sep 30, 2019 7:56 AM

The Boston Red Sox haven't initiated any conversations with Eduardo Rodriguez about a long-term extension.

However, Rodriguez is open to such talks.

"I still have two more years here. We'll see how that goes. I love it here and I want to stay here for a long time. If they want me to, I'll stay here," Rodriguez said. "I haven't had that conversation yet so I don't know how that feels."

Rodriguez had a solid season for Boston, posting a 3.81 ERA and 213 strikeouts in 203.1 innings.

J.D. Martinez On Opt-Out: I Don't Mind Moving Around

Oct 1, 2019 7:54 AM

When asked about the opt-out clause in his contract with the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, J.D. Martinez raised eyebrows with his response.

"I don't mind moving around," Martinez said. "I kind of like it."

Martinez has played for three teams over the last four years.

He has an opt-out in the five-year, $110 million deal he signed with the Red Sox prior to the 2018 season.

Felix Hernandez Wants To Pitch In 2020

Sep 27, 2019 11:56 PM

The Seattle Mariners gave Felix Hernandez an emotional send-off Thursday in what is expected to be his final appearance with the club.

Hernandez, however, doesn't think he's done pitching.

"We'll see if I can find a job. I'm not retiring," the 33-year-old pending free agent said.

Hernandez signed a seven-year, $175 million extension with the Mariners in 2013.

The San Diego Padres have begun discussing a possible contract extension with Kirby Yates.

Phillies Want To Sign J.T. Realmuto To Contract Extension

Sep 18, 2019 7:49 AM

J.T. Realmuto is under contract for one more season before he'll be eligible for free agency.

The Philadelphia Phillies would like to keep the catcher from getting to that point.

Realmuto has said throughout the season that he's open to remaining with the Phillies and the club would like to keep him around for the long-term.

They traded pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez and young catcher Jorge Alfaro to the Miami Marlins for Realmuto prior to this season.

The Phillies already have $110 million committed to nine players for 2020.

Nationals 'Confident' Stephen Strasburg Will Remain With Club

Sep 12, 2019 8:51 AM

Stephen Strasburg can opt-out of his contract and become a free agent this coming winter.

Mike Rizzo, however, says the Washington Nationals are confident the right-hander will remain with the club.

"But [...] every time Stras is on the mound, I think I like our chances to win that game," the general manager said. "I think he likes it here, and I think he loves his teammates and the atmosphere that we have here and I'm confident that he'll be a National."

Red Sox Likely To Lose Mookie Betts Or J.D. Martinez This Offseason

Sep 11, 2019 7:44 AM

The Boston Red Sox are likely to part with either Mookie Betts or J.D. Martinez, if not both, this coming winter.

Doing so would allow the Red Sox to get under the luxury tax threshold.

Betts has one year of team control left before he qualifies for free agency.

Martinez, meanwhile, can opt out of his contract after this season or next. If he doesn't opt out, he'll make $60 million over the next three years.

Anthony Rendon Could Seek Deal Similar To Nolan Arenado

Sep 10, 2019 7:55 AM

Anthony Rendon is expected to explore the free agent market this winter after failing to come to terms on an extension with the Washington Nationals.

Through 128 games, Rendon owns an MLB-high .337 batting average, an 1.047 OPS, 32 home runs and 114 RBIs -- all career-highs.

Mark Feinsand reports that Scott Boras is expected to seek a deal similar to what Nolan Arenado received from the Colorado Rockies -- $260 million over eight years.
